My professional education includes Undergraduate and Graduate Degrees in Education, 15 years of teaching and administration in public and private schools where I was an early advocate for students with disabilities, and ownership of a private tutoring business for 2 decades.

With regard to personal artistic endeavors, I have studied diamond point hand-engraving, watercolor, primitive rug hooking, basketry and weaving over the years.  Travel to Western and Northern Europe, Latin America, Japan and throughout the US has allowed for learning opportunities and exploration of early industrial textile manufacturing.

I have enjoyed teaching artistic creativity across mediums to students, groups and individuals with varying degrees of ability.  As a recent transplant to Chapel Hill, NC from Austin, TX, I currently strive to balance personal artistic exploration while continuing to carry forward a passion for facilitating creative expression and joy within the larger community through artful weaving.

*And a thank you to Mihoko Wakabayashii, at Saori Worcester who has shared so much with so many... Dawn Hummer
